Last Night…MAB Party & Cheers to Fall

Last night at the grand opening of the new Michael Andrews Bespoke studio.

I have to admit, I didn’t dress appropriately for the weather. Truth is; last spring I designed this beautiful midnight velvet tux jacket for one of the mannequins in the MAB studio, and I’ve been waiting to wear it ever since. (I designed most of the display garments in the shop, and yes, I had them cut in my dimensions ;)

Peak lapel midnight velvet tuxedo jacket, 1/2″ pleated tuxedo shirt, hand-enameled studs and cufflinks, all by Michael Andrews Bespoke (custom made). Braces by Trafalgar. Midnight velvet bow tie handmade by Carolina Montesino. Watch by Montblanc.

Thought this would be a nice peek into to the upcoming fall season – the time of year when those of us passionate about style begin looking forward to flannels, tweeds and cashmeres.

Thanks for reading. Post on formal attire coming soon.

Yours in style,
SB

Bonus: somebody needs to merchandise 5-piece and 6-piece stud sets. Now that cummerbunds are less popular, there needs to be an answer for the last two shirt buttons showing at the stomach. I had to design this pleated tuxedo shirt with a covered placket and have 4 stud holes cut through it since I couldn’t find a retailer (or wholesaler) who carries a stud set with enough pieces. I do have an awesome low-cut U-shaped tuxedo vest that covers the waistband – as a traditional gentlemen will tell you needs to be covered when in formal dress – but I was already hot in velvet. Not to mention I love a two piece 1-button tuxedo with a low button stance.

Is buying two sets the only answer?

Chiming in with the others who say the velvet tuxedo sounds awesome but can we see some clearer pics please?

Wow, Dan, lots of new posts since my last visit. All looks great. Regarding the new MAB studio. . . do you know if there are plans to increase pricing on their work? I’ve been planning on having them do a tux for me but loved the idea that I was getting a bespoke piece for extremely reasonable pricing, all thing considered. Any changes coming up for them?

Thanks and great post as always!

  • Wow, a sigh of relief from myself. I thought I was the ‘only’ person that still wears a pleated tux shirt. Love the black detail on the buttons.

    Well done Dan.

You should’ve posted something letting us know about the opening. I would’ve dropped in. Looks like it was a great time. Can’t really see the tux, but I’m sure it’s wonderful.

  • Frend! I like your sharing.

    Hey Dan,

I like the overall look of the post, however; we’re not really able to see the detail in the tux. How the opening?

Great post. It looks like the opening was a success. The tux is a great design. Well done SB and keep up the good work.

Congratulations! Clearly you’ve been a big help to the partners at MAB. It is truly great to see their business so wonderfully advance in a society that doesn’t value the type of work they do nearly as much as yesteryear. As for your question, I don’t see any other way around it outside of the vest option you pointed out. Just keep that jacket done up (unless you take it off!).
