The weather is finally really warming up, and I’m getting more and more questions from readers about warm weather outfits.
If you take only one thing away from this entire blog, make it this: invest in a cotton suit for the second half of Spring to the first half of Fall.
Not only does a cotton suit breathe much better than wool, leaving you feeling and looking cool, it is also slightly more casual and therefore easier to wear with casual accessories (such as this cotton weaved belt and these beaded bracelets) and more laid back footwear (like sneakers, or these royal blue suede drivers).
Although a summer suit can have a little more room (clothing tends to get a little more ‘flowy’ and less strictly tailored in the summer) fit is still very important. As always, look for something with a slim flattering fit, high armhole, slim sleeve, straight leg, etc. I would also recommend looking for a jacket with a more natural shoulder. A soft shoulder (jacket with a small shoulder pad) or completely unconstructed shoulder is more appropriate when worn casually.
Look for something in a dark british khaki, deep olive, navy blue or my favorite (because so many guys overlook it) brown.
Press it and dress it up with shirt, tie and wingtips for a day at the office, then take it casual with a t-shirt, ribbon belt and classic sneakers for a quick summer weekend getaway.
Brown cotton suit by Hugo Boss (40R). Shirt by Band of Outsiders (Large). Cotton weaved belt by Polo Ralph Lauren (M). Blue suede driving shoes – r.i.p. elvis – Massimo Dutti. Linen tipped pocket square is Vintage. Watch by Montblanc. Watchstrap by Freeze. Shades by Ralph Lauren Purple Label.
Thanks for reading.

Dan,
This is a really good post. I have had the question running through my head for the past few weeks about this warm weather attire switch up. I dig the subtle hits of casualness with the mocs and woven belts. What would you say is your favorite look in the summer?

Hey, I’ve been wondering about this for a really long time. Do you wear socks with those types of shoes?
..Because i sometimes don’t and the people surrounding me aren’t happy about the odor that my feet release. lol

This guy is the current icon and american idol of sartorial splendor. This is very well done. How does it do it? Does anyone know. A handsome bloke as well. I really like how he is not sitting on the bench as one would. Clearly innovative!!!!
one for the money
two for the show

Great post and blog. Can you give some more advice on outfits that you can wear bright colored driving loafers with? I have two pairs (bright green and blue), and have no clue what to wear it with. Thanks!

Cotton doesn’t breathe better than wool. A summer weight wool fresco will actually be cooler than cotton, which requires a much tighter weave to hold its shape. Otherwise, spot on.

He looks like a clown. Especially with the matching wristband. This is neither fashion nor style.

wtf—->
Some people may like or dislike certain aspects of Mr Trepanier’s sartorial taste. Given this is in an open publick. forum, opinions will be posted. This is not about hate, haterade or haters but rather about opinions.
Now here is to you :When is Broke Back Mountain 2 premiering?
Why not let a person voice their opinion without the need to be the “I cant quit you man” character.

While the outfit (and most others on this site) might be something I could see on the runway, I can’t imagine someone wearing them on the street. E.g. this suit, it is obviously very nice and the outfit looks very good, but were I too wear those shoes I would get some stares and comments (and if I saw someone wearing it, I would wonder what was going on).
Is this how you normally dress?

Asher, just because a lot of people dress different on the street doen’t mean you have to adjust to to those standards. I dress quite similar to class etc. and even though you sometimes get stares( but also looks from girls ;) ) if you carry yourself with confidence there is no problem with that.

I didn’t like this outfit either. It’s not that i didn’t like the wristband and the shoes (I wore all purple shoes yesterday), but something just looks funny. I like the post though, keep it up!
